Throw your food away! That's what you want to do, right? When you're done with it, you dispose of it, right?
It's garbage and should go away now, you don't want to mess around with it for the
next few days and weeks - heck, you don't even want to look at
it again if you don't have to. With the WormGin , you don't have to. None of this spreading garbage
out on a tray - just get it from plate to pipe.
Your waste trimmings from the cutting board? Just get it into the pipe and begone with it!
Dinner's over, the meat goes to the dog and most of the rest to the worms, that's just a cool way to live.
All customers get free access to
personal help on the bulletin boards I've set up on this site. I'll be there to answer your questions.
Seriously, please tell me how I can make it easier to get you started at vermicomposting.
I've done the "wormgineering" so go ahead and buy a WormGin :-) Click the button!
"But I'm no good at pets and plants and stuff like that"
Hey, this is super easy, quit worrying -
I have a page you should read, things you need to know. The WormGin eliminates
a lot of problems, and the few remaining problem areas go away if you follow
very simple guidelines.
Here's the main thing: dairy and meat should
not generally be put into a worm bin of any kind. The WormGin might be able to handle some
but that is not yet proven, so for now, dairy and meat are not to be included in your composted food waste.
For sure, milk and raw meat must not go into your worm bin
- cheese and cooked meat might possibly be
approved at some future date, but for now, the rule is NO MEAT OR DAIRY.
The other main thing is simply to be patient as your new appliance gets up to speed.

Red Wiggler Worms are highly adaptable. That's what they are all about in nature: Feast or Famine, and when it
is feast time, they are incredibly productive at converting complex foodstuffs into a mineral and microbe-rich
compost product (known by various names: vermicompost, worm castings, worm poop).
The WormGin is designed to provide these hard-working worms with ideal conditions and a large easy to navigate volume,
using a combination of clever but simple design tricks to crank up the ability of the worm bin to dispose of food at a
much higher rate than previously available vermiculture products.
In other words, this product is designed to dispose of a LOT more food waste than the other products
you can buy: that was the idea from the beginning.

Not only does this product take food waste that would otherwise quite likely emit methane in a landfill
somewhere and instead converts it into
the best plant food known to man (seriously! I call it "Superquestering"), but great attention has been paid to making sure
that the materials and parts
used have acceptable carbon footprints and minimize or eliminate other eco-harmful consequences.
If you think I'm exaggerating with the claim that vermicompost is the best plant food known to man, then I would urge you
to do some independent research on the subject. Hint: the Ortho site might not be the best place to learn about it. :-)
Seriously, you got this far, even if you don't start disposing of your kitchen scraps using worms, you ought to at least
know how awesome the finished product is. That was the thing that grabbed my attention and got me started on this whole thing -
I've always known about worm composting, but I didn't know just how awesome organic gardening with vermicompost was. I'm
telling you folks, organic gardening is all about composting and vermicompost is even better than what highly successful
organic gardeners use. This means you can more or less "instantly" become an organic gardener if you're producing your own
vermicompost.
Old School (the last century or so) Industrial Farming talks about not much more than NPK ratios, when it comes to feeding plants.
But there is a New School brought to light by scientists - and gardeners - examining the myriad microbial life
in the soil and the macro critters that feed on those microbes (nematodes, earthworms, pill bugs, etc.). This New School clearly
has the natural answer to "feeding" plants.
Organic carbon is also important, and when the carbon in the food waste eventually goes through
an earthworm's gut (especially red wigglers), the organic carbon becomes readily available to the plants to build tissue with.
I'll say it again:
Vermicompost is the Best Plant Food Known To Man.
Ask any gardener who has used it.
By the way, have you heard about Worm Tea? I'm talking about the real thing: freshly made, highly aerated and full of
billions of beneficial microbes. You spray it on your plants and, at the risk of exaggerating, basically
all the bad wee beasties go away and the good wee beasties
thrive. If you're a beginning organic gardener, Worm Tea lets you achieve results like an expert! I just thought you should know.
eco-audit
A self-audit of everything that goes into a WormGin has revealed only one thing that is
bothersome from an eco-friendly standpoint, everything else is as good as can be done as far as I know.
You gotta build a product out of
something, what you get here is already mass-produced ABS plastic; cheap lumber (they tell me it is sustainable);
and recyclable aluminum, steel, and stainless steel - all are eco-acceptable by my understanding.
Material selection was very carefully done on this product. The bin itself is polypropylene,
which as plastics go is not too bad. The feed shelf is acrylic, another relatively benign plastic.
No chemicals, solvents, or VOCs are used.
